Most probably made by Roulette et Decamps…an automaton brown bear.
Rare early “wheeled” version.
Made in France around the start of the last century…..c.1900-1910’s
impressive size at nearly 10 inches height…..almost 11 inches length
Wonderful looking antique automaton
his real plush pelt still looks very nice,even after more than a century….no unpleasant odour etc..he has a wonderful ferocious face……glass eyes,big ears,large articulated jaw,with carved white teeth and a large tongue….and he still wears his original wire muzzle. on the underside of each claw, he has the original pronged metal wheel.his winding shaft is located on his side,with the stop-start lever between his rear legs.
WHEN WORKING HE WOULD WALK FORWARD…..WITH MOVING HEAD, AND WITH HIS JAW OPENING AND CLOSING.
I AM SELLING HIM AS A NON-WORKING…COLLECTABLE STATIC DISPLAY PIECE ONLY……because his movement is now erratic and mostly non functioning.the spring is intact and will wind up,but when pushing his start lever forward…he does not usually start….mechanism is sticking or something.
on a very rare occasion he has worked,but not too smoothly;so now requires a good internal clean/service/repair to the mechanical components.”THE HOUSE OF AUTOMATA”…located in the U.K ,are expert in this……or over in the U.S.A ,someone like “antiquetoysandautomata” could manage this.

he is a great looking automaton bear….happy to sit on the shelf,once his movement/gait stops in the correct position .cosmetic appearance, as you can see in the pictures…..is very nice…..with just a little age/play wear;his pelt is still soft to the touch,with just the odd spot of thinning,as you must expect after more than 100 years.
