You are bidding on a Very Cute Vintage /Antique Monkey Bearing the Pixie Joy Label Stourbridge of England, Pixie Toys were founded in the 1930s by the Wives of Two Glass Manufacturers in Stourbridge, to earn a little extra money during hard times, the first Toys were made at home (which is why I think parts of this little chap are quiet roughly sewn) later they made some at the their Husbands Glassworks. They hired a Designer Mrs Elizabeth Simmonds who used to work for Norah Wellings and Merrythought. The Family retired at the end of the 1930s and Elizabeth Simmonds brought until continued with the Company until it closed in 1962. ( I found all this information on a website so can’t guarantee it to be true). There are very few of these toys available and even rarer with the Original Pixie Joy label, so I am sure he is very rare find. He has amazing character despite his faults, ie some worn fur, seam and felt damage. He is a cuddly and is soft filled the central body I think has a mixture of filling as it makes some noise when squashed, he has a growler in his tummy but this longer works. He is a very lovely lovable Monkey who with two other Monkey Mates are looking for a new home. I am no expert so Please ask any questions or for more photos / Measurements for you to decide. This Monkey was part of a family collection of Dolls and teddy Bears, which vary in age, some are from the 1900s others from early 2000. I am happy to combine postage to spread the cost, please look at all my other items.
Condition – Cuddled & LOVED – Vintage – Felt Paws have some wear/moth holes, leg seem has come apart but could be easily repaired, mouth has some strange stitches but I think maybe original sort of character, one eye is inserted more than the other but original, (see below for History) Growler in tummy no longer working – Please see close up flash photos.
Approx Size of Monkey 21″ 53cms length.
