Simply adorable, this amazing, truly rare Steiff Bully dog purse, with earbutton and shred of stock tag c.1930s. Bully is all original, and measures 28 cms (11″) long from nose to tail. He has a swivel head and was made in a sleeping, stretched out position. His small purse compartment is lined with beige velvet and in excellent condition. It fastens along his back with a metal zip – the zipper itself is stamped with some numbers and letters, but they may not be important.
Bully’s eyes are back-painted glass, and he has a beige embroidered nose, and airbrushed mouth with faint red smudging to emulate a tongue. Apart from his storage area, he’s stuffed with woodwool, and may have wires running through his legs, I’m not sure. His ears area definitely wired, and the novelty of his cute fat tail, is that it contains a side-squeezing squeaker! It doesn’t really work any longer, though makes a clicking noise when pressed.
His velvet muzzle is is good condition, with just some slight loss of nap under his chin, close to his neck joint. There’s also some some rust spots here and there. Overall, Bully has kept an impressive amount of black and white mohair, with only minor thinning.
This delightful character wears a brown leather collar, that’s unlikely to be original, but suits him. He also travels with his little blue Bully embroidered blanket, which amply fits into his purse.
