A wonderful, Terry John Woods one-of-a-kind artist bear, in stunning original condition. Made of beautiful, spicy-cinnamon mohair, she measures 46 cms (18″) tall and is fully-jointed. As with all TJW creations, this delightful character pays homage to the style of early pre-1910 German teddies – in this instance, a rare centre seam Steiff.
She has antique shoebutton eyes, and merino wool felt pads. Her nose and mouth are hand-embroidered in black pearl cotton, and she’s stuffed with a mix of poly, pellets and excelsior. Typically, she has an ID tag sewn into her rear seam, bearing the faded, but just about readable, initials of TJW written with a marker pen.
The American artist never dresses his bears, but I’ve given her an antique cream crochet collar to wear for some of her photos, and she will travel with this collar to her new home.
Terry John Woods’ career has evolved from painting and sculpting, to garden and interior design, along with producing and styling features in national publications. His folk art talents were developed in the late1980s, with his design and creation of vintage-style teddy bears, which are now collected worldwide. Thanks for looking!
