Rupert- Endearing Rare 1900’s W J Terry Mohair Teddy Bear Antique Old English
This is Rupert. I can’t quite put across how beautiful he is, and my photographs don’t do him justice! He is a very rare W J Terry bear dating to around 100 years old.
He is fully jointed, stuffed with woodwool and stands around 13inches tall. He is smothered in honey brown mohair and retains his original felt pads (with expect some wear), card lined feet, foot and claw stitching (5, 3, 5 & 5 claws), nose and mouth stitching and beautiful glossy pained back glass eyes.
He has a lovely shape to him typical of a Terrys bear with a big snout and excellent nose stitching, strong feet and little bit of tum. He also has a little bit of provenance in form of a previous owner wrote his name on his foot which appears to say Rupert.
Rupert will go to his new home dressed in his purple Ribbon which I have not wanted to undo for photographs as it appears super vintage so I assume it’s been with him a long time .. and I love it! I have also included a photograph of a very similar Terry’s Bear which made it onto the front of a 1995 Bonhams Catalogue.
I feel Rupert has seen a lot over the years, and enjoyed many happy memories ….. he’s just patiently waiting now for that wonderful loving new owner to continue to make memories.
