This worn and mostly bald, long-nosed sentry Bing bear, has a very rare blue metal ID tag clamped to his left wrist. It was the final type used by Bing from 1927 until the company closed in 1932. The tag is rusted and unreadable, but still partly blue. It would have had GERMANY or BAVARIA written on it, above BW (Bing Werke).
Known as Luki, he’s 31 cms (12″) tall, and firmly stuffed with woodwool. He has replaced amber glass eyes, and a re-stitched nose and mouth, along with brown claws done some time ago. His felt paw pads are also old replacements, while his original footpads have been repaired. Typical of the era, his legs are back-seamed, and his heels are pointed so he appears to be standing on tiptoe, like a sentry on guard.
There’s a patched insert to the top of Luki’s muzzle, and a small patch to the inner sides of his arms close to his joints, but they’re secure, along with all his others. Also, his right arm is extensively darned around his ID tag, and his left arm is a little threadbare. On the whole, though, Luki is a sturdy bear. He’s wearing a handmade sailor jacket with a genuine Bavarian woven scarf, cut from a larger one, and hopes he’s lucky enough to find a new home! Thanks for looking.
