This dear old chimp chappie is Ezra, a very early Schuco or Farnell bear monkey, dating to around 1910-12 and his inseparable doggie pal Pip.He is a substantial 21″ tall, straw filled, with what I believe to be his original glass eyes with painted backs, sewn into his felt face. His face is full of holes giving him a quirky, pock marked look which only adds to his character. He is made from a deep chocolate coloured mohair of which only about 50% remains. He has a fully working zip in his back and is firmly stuffed within the compartment which what could be an old grey scarf…i have not removed it as the material is still sturdy and complete and i do not want to disturb his “shape”, so to speak. He has metal armatures to his hands and feet which protrude out in parts, see pics. He smells lovely and is nice and clean. The same can be said for little Pip, a little 7″ tall cotton plush dog dating to slightly later, possibly 1030s. He wears his original red collar and is devoted to his monkey pal. As with many of my bears and animals, these chaps have been loved to oblivion so they will not be for everyone, but for those who love a well loved bear they would make a super old character pair to add to your collection.
