From a late relatives private toy collection, here is a 28″ tall, very sweet, quirky, very old / possibly rare / antique Teddy Bear. We have been informed that the bear is an early American Stick Bear but please see the photos and make your own judgement.
Bear has large furry ears, long arms and legs, stitched nose and claws, a rather odd shaped straw-filled head, long limbs, curved arms, and is just a floppy cuddly old Ted. Head flops down and the mohair is quite worn in places (tummy area is quite worn) but is still quite hairy in other places so you can see how lovely and soft the fur was when the bear was new. Ted’s body stuffing/filling feels softer than the straw-filled head. The pads are fabric and quite tatty / repaired with a patch and one of the hand-paw pads has fallen off and needs repair (please see photos). Teds nose and muzzle area are very worn. There are some old “darning” repairs to the ted’s neck and shoulder and the limbs are jointed but quite stiff. This bear has been well loved but is full of character and I think much more unusual and quirky than your antique average bear.
Ted is dressed in original vintage clothing consisting of cotton pants, satin dress with sequins and a white furry scarf secured with a pretty brooch.
We believe the bear dates to circa 1920’s / 1930’s.
