This is a wonderful early Steiff teddy bear with a beautiful face dating to c1908/1909 measuring 20.5″. Teddy has his ff button in ear with original nose/mouth and claw stitching. He is a center seam Steiff teddy bear; a much sought after bear, solidly stuffed with wood wool with a now non working growler that clunks when he is shaken. His mohair is long and silky with no less than 90% remaining with some slight thinning here and there but only to be expected for a bear of his grand old age! One hand pad has an insert apart from that they are all original and in excellent shape, there is some sagging to his upper arms were the wood wool has broken down over the years. This wonderful Teddy came from the Joan Dunk collection who was a much loved Portobello Road, London antiques dealer who had an outside pitch positioned on the corner of Westbourne grove for many, many years. A catalogue along with tag will come with this fabulous bear.
