A much loved and used old Teddy Bear in need of some care and attention. This bear is approx.15 inches (41cms) tall. The head and paws are a short pile woolly plush like fabric but the body and legs are cotton The bodice, sleeves and boots are sewn on as a permanent part of the construction to cover the base cotton under fabric. The cotton gingham dress material and ‘Broderie Anglais’ apron is typical of late 1950’s early 1960’s period but I cannot more accurately date this bear. The eyes are small sewn on felt circles but one is missing.( see image 4) This does not look to me like a ‘home made bear’ but I can find no references to attribute a commercial maker to it. It may also have been re-dressed during its time of use.so the clothes may not at all be original to its making. There are old repairs made during the bears use and the ears have been re sewn back on and so has the head. ( see image 4 for ears and 5 for head). There are water stains on some of the clothes (see images 7 and 8). Clearly this was a much loved bear. Although now in need of care this is a lovely elderly bear with great charm and character.
