Rare 1930’s Chad Valley panda teddy bear in very good condition.
This lovely looking old teddy bear panda was made by Chad Valley in the 1930’s and has
a blue and white ‘HYGENIC TOYS MADE IN ENGLAND BY CHAD VALLEY Co LTD’ label
on his right foot pad. Panda measures approximately 11″ tall, is five ways jointed and
firmly stuffed with kapok with just a little wood wool in his snout. He is in remarkably good
condition for his age, with an excellent coverage of his black and white mohair, which has
slight overall thinning but no bare spots and his black mohair has not faded at all.
All of his original features are still intact, including his unusual humanised glass eyes and
black felt nose. His black felt pads have faded but there are no holes or damage and the
only issue is that the backing fabric underneath the white mohair on his tummy has a
discoloured tide mark, although it does not look like anything has been spilt on him and
the mohair is unnaffected so it may be that it is a chemical reaction from the dyes used
or a maybe a reaction to the stuffing? I do not think it detracts to badly from his otherwise
excellent condition and he would make an fabulous addition to any hug.
