I have nicknamed this unusual, odd looking old teddy ‘Marcel’ because I think it likely he is of French origin, and even though he is not an especially fine looking bear, his colours, and ribbon to his neck do suggest that he is at least a patriotic teddy.
His ribbon – which was on him when I bought him, is probably original, and so is included in the sale.
The red/blue/white/ribbon and the unusual pink and blue colours of velvet fabric he is made from, might give some clues to his age and identity, and I estimate that he probably dates to the 1930’s, but although I think he is by a Frecn manufacturer, there is no label, and it is possible that he was homemade.
He is not jointed, and although he is soft filled and quite flexible, I think he was designed to stand.
