This very rare Deans Rag Book Co velvet character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was originally made under licence in the late 1920’s. This particular little (approx 9″) velvet Oswald Rabbit is one of the very early ones and he has the feint registered design print details to the side of his neck. Please see relevant images.Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was a character created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney for Universal films during the 1920s and 1930s. Oswald Rabbit pre-dates Mickey Mouse, but because he was produced in fewer numbers than the famous Disney mouse, examples like this one appear less frequently for sale. Clearly my Oswald has been loved and handled over the years and so will require some skillful restoration, mainly to his feet. His distinctive features appear to me to be original, including the velvet outfit – which make up and cover his hands and legs, his velvet face, felt ears, boot button eyes, nose, mohair tail and cotton fabric feet. Oswald is wired through the legs to make him pose – the wire is visible due to the damage to his feet.
