Here we have a really lovely example of a very early Chiltern bear, I’ve actually not seen a better one in my years of collecting, but I’m now down sizing and reassessing what I want to collect, so hoping he finds a good home….I called him Charlie, as I thought he looked like Charlie Chaplin!!
Please examine ALL of the pics as they form a very large part of the description. Feel free to ask questions too.
To reiterate, as in the condition description – “For his age, really lovely condition – superb mohair coverage, original glass eyes, only some minor damage to carded feet pads as is usual for this type of bear, and some slight balding where squeaker has been pushed, plus usual kissing wear to the nose/forehead….”
To add to that, his nose stitching is definitely original, but the mouth looks like it could possibly have been added at a later date. The card in his feet has put the surrounding mohair backing under pressure, as is usual for these, so there are minor splits, as per pics, and one card insert has also split, but the material itself is still very strong! Possibly a few stitches added to right paw pad too to keep from splitting, as some of the stitching doesn’t look entirely original. Squeaker very obviously present, as you can clearly feel it, but does not work. Slight balding to the mohair in that area. Slight thinning and balding to head and nose too. Again, please see pics. He has velveteen pads, and is approx. 13″ tall.
From a pet and smoke free home, and he has been carefully cleaned to remove any dust after being ‘moth balled’ to ensure he has no pets of his own! He could possibly benefit from a further surface wash to brighten the mohair a little.
