Meet Basil, an unusual, good sized early mohar bear with glass eyes and a doggie type face. His origins are a bit of a mystery. He has long arms which are fairly straight but curved at the paws and very straight legs His body shape is very like that of early American bears but his head isn’t so typical, with its oblong shape and doggie look. He is an impressive 20″ tall, and filled with a sub filling which is much heavier than straw. He has a good working growler which indicates that he comes from a quality manufacturer. He has velvet pads which I think are a later addition, although beautifully done. What’s left of his mohair (only about 20%) is quite evenly worn all over. He is clean and fresh smelling and would make a very interesting addition to any old bear collection.
