Adorable antique very early pre-button and pre-label Chad Valley mohair teddy bear, possibly ‘Smiles’, dating from 1915-1920
made of ‘old’ gold mohair, stuffed with wood-wool throughout the body and head,
fully jointed,
has got replacement clear and black glass eyes,pronounced muzzle,
original black horizontally stitched triangular shaped nose,
inverted Y shape ‘smiling’ mouth stitching has been replaced,
original well loved grey colour brushed cotton pads have been recovered with appropriate brushed cotton, original three claws stitching to all limbs, with couple stitches worn-out.
Has got inoperative large cardboard growler in his tummy.
Teddy Bear is approx. 19″ (49 cm) tall.
Condition – item is in good antique condition with some general wear, thinning and balding spots, small hole to the left foot, minor repair at the top of the muzzle, joints a bit loose, but still secure.
