Early Chiltern blonde mohair teddy bear with some provenance. 1930’s
This lovely Chiltern teddy bear is names ‘POOH’ and dates to the 1930’s as you can see from the handwrittenlabel that was attached to his arm when he came to me. Pooh is 19″ tall and five ways jointed with all his joints working smoothly so he can be nicely posed. His body and limbs are stuffed with kapok and his head is stuffed with wood wool and he has a non working press growler in his tummy.
He has been loved, as you can see from the photos, but he still retains a fairly good coverage of his blonde
mohair plush with just overall thinning and some small bare areas and I would estimate he has retained
approximately 75% coverage overall. He could probably do with a light surface clean to fluff him up a little
but there are no nasty smells.His stuffing is also a little loose and he has quite a schlumpy posture
which I think just adds to his character. He is also missing one half of his stitched mouth but is otherwise in
original condition with undamaged cotton pads and he has three claw stitches on each paw.
Poohs label states that he was purchased at ‘Marks & Spencers’ in Bromley in 1933 and cost 5 shillings. It is always nice to find a bear with a little bit of its history attached and he is a lovely looking ted that would make a fabulous addition to any hug of bears.
Pooh is being offered with a very reasonable ‘Buy it Now’ price, but as ever, I am open to all sensible offers.
