This wondeful Chad Valley spring leg dog measures 19″ long from nose to tail
and is 15″ tall dating to the 1930’s with shaggy silvery white mohair and apart from
a couple of minor repairs he is in very good original condition. These spring legged
animals were originally made by I.S.A toys from about 1915 but they were bought
by Chad Valley in 1922 who continued to make similar toys through to the 1930’s.
He is unjointed and completely wood wool stuffed and has strong springs inside his
legs so he can be bounced along in a jumping motion. He has a very good coverage
of his shaggy white mohair with just slight thinning and a couple of small bare areas
but I would estimate he has approximately 85% plush remaining overall. Two of his
felt pads are original and the other two have been neatly recovered with a leatherette
material. His eyes have also been replaced in the past with plastic buttons but he is in
otherwise original condition with all his other features intact and a red and white
Chad Valley Hygenic toys label dating him to circa 1930.
He is quite a rare find, particularly in the form of a (Sheepdog?) dog as the elephants
were more common and he would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
