Large size 1920’s ‘Felix the Cat’ Farnell soft toy. Shop display. 23″ tall.
These soft toys are generally thought to be made by Farnell although Felix no longer has any labelsbut this a rare large example of these early toys with almost all his original features intact and a good 90%+ coverage of his black mohair plush overall. There are some small areas of damage, including a missing ear and the internal wire is slightly poking through the backing fabric on one finger, one foot and his tail and he has a small tear near the button joint on his right arm as shown in the photos but he is otherwise in good sturdy condition and very rare and unusual to find in this large size and hewas possibly made as a shop window display item.
Felix stands at 23″ tall to the top of his head not including his ears and he is completely wood wool stuffed with a jointed arms, and wired arms, legs and tail which can be moved, but carefully, as the fabric is a bit brittle. His googly milk glass eyes, boot button nose and toothy smile mouth stitching and horse hair whiskers are all original and he is a sturdy toy and is able to stand up with his tail acting as a third leg, like a tripod. I particularlylike the unusual detail of his pointing forefingers on both hands and you can see he is able to do one handed finger press ups in the 2nd to last photo! It is unusual to find these Felix toys in such large and pretty good original condition and he would make a great addition to any collection.
