IRRESISTABLY CUTE
LITTLE ANTIQUE WHITE
MOHAIR LAMB
CIRCA 1920-1930
This endearing little old antique lamb has no makers label, but is almost certainly of either English or German origin.
He dates from sometime between 1920 -1930, and measures approximately 8½ inches in height from floor to top of his head, 6 inches in height from floor to top of his back, and 8 inches in length from nose to tail.
He is made of white/cream coloured mohair which is soft and clean, retaining approximately 95% coverage. He is stuffed entirely with wood wool which is still firmly and evenly distributed.
Because of the way he was made – with his legs in a slightly bent position, tucked underneath him, he does occasionally topple over, but provided due care is taken when initially positioning him he can stand up quite safely on his own without any form of support – as shown in his photos, he’s still rather nippy on his pins and is rather fond of climbing trees!
He has white felt ears, the left one is complete and intact, whilst the right one has a piece missing from the end
(it looks as if he may possibly have originally had a tag or button in his right ear?)
He has large painted back pale green glass (stitched in) eyes, and original black stitched nose and muzzle.
He is very clean and is guaranteed to have no dusty or musty odours of any sort.
He displays beautifully and is absolutely adorable with an overdose of charm!
He would be a wonderful pal for a lonely antique teddy bear, or a charming addition to any collection of antique toys.
He is wearing a green grosgrain ribbon and a large vintage brass bell (so you will hear him if he does topple over!)
