This is Francis – named after his hero Sir Francis Chichester – another renowned sailor who has sailed the seven seas! He is a wonderful if somewhat slumpy old character who dates to the 20’s/30’s. Francis is 24 inches tall but looks less imposing as he is so slumped. He is fully jointed with a non-working growler and completely straw stuffed – the straw has slipped particularly in his top body and arms leading to his distinctive slumped look. His pads were replaced in old linen many moons ago but suit him beautifully and he has lost a lot of mohair – he retains just enough to still be respectable. His face is wonderful – he has odd replacement eyes and a muzzle to die for. Slumpy has a hole to the underside of his mouth which I have pictured – this is his most significant hole – a few other very tiny ones. Francis is a fabulous bear in spite of all of his damage and could be restored – I have left him as he is slumped beautifully in a chair dressed in his full sailor suit. A wonderful old chap in search of a home xxx (please note Francis’s size and weight would make him expensive to post overseas so UK posting only)
Please be aware I am a lover of the tattier old teds with oodles of character so bear this mind before buying – no bear will be perfect – far from it – but I guarantee they are all perfectly adorable. I try to list every bear accurately – if there is anything I forget I can only apologise – I try to put plenty of photos up so please take a good look as these form part of the description. I happily post overseas but anything over 40 in value HAS to be tracked hence overseas postage may seem a lot – if postage is less than quoted I will happily refund the difference.
