Thisis Koty, I have always thought of him as a koala, but he could bejust a different bear! I think he has the cutest face, but beauty isin the eye of the beholder!I donot know that maker of Koty, though I think he was made in directcompetition to Steiff’s miniature Teddy Baby bear with the big feet. It was first made in the 1930’s and then and in the 1950’s and were very successful hence they were copied by other manufacturers. His feet are more similar to Steiff’s 1930’s model as are the arms with no paw pads, I believe 1930’s version had no paw pads on arms, they came later with paw pads facing downward.I would date in between 1930’s – 1950’s, but definitely no later.I knowmany manufacturers did there own version. A bit like the zotty bear being copied. At first I thought hecould be of Japanese origin, but he looks too well made as theJapanese miniatures of the time mostly had tiny plastic noses or tinysewn noses and tiny eyes unlike Koty’s.Hisinner ears, muzzle and feet are made of suede or suedette.He has glass eyes and a sewn nose and mouth. His fur is either mohairor wool plush (itchy to skin so natural fibre). He has a goodcovering all over though thin in places as well as very faded. Hislegs and arms are metal rod/pin jointed. His head is sewn fixed. He hasfour black sewn claws to each foot. He is quite a chunky little fellow.Kotyis a very unusual bear/koala, I have never seen another like him. Heis all original and won’t take up much room in a hug. He displaysvery well as you will see in the last photo. Such a cute little bear:)Ihave provided photos to show clearly his condition.
