Dean’s Rag Book PUCK Doll14″circa 1912
This wonderful rare Dean’s Puck doll was made at their Elephant & Castle works in London in about 1912. It is stuffed with cork chips which makes it an early one as later ones were stuffed with wood wool, kapok or sub. As is stated in Neil Miller’s Deans history book; Puck is interesting as up to 1912 Dean’s traditionally produced rag dolls with flat faces and printed features. Mr Puck has a seam down the centre of his face and a nose shape sewn in – possibly the first time this was attempted. Both feet have printed marks on. A hygiene notice on his right foot and the Dean’s Knockabout label on the left. Mr Puck is in excellent original condition with only a little age related soiling. Thanks for looking.
