Early Steiff Irish terrier dog soft toy. 1912-1919.
This wonderful character dog was made by Steiff between 1912 and 1919 and can be seen on page 107 of the Gunther Pfeiffer ‘Steiff Sortiment’. He is approximately 10″ tall in the sitting posItion and measures 12″ from his nose to the base of his tail. You can see from the photos that he been loved, although he has retained a good coverage of his pale golden mohair with just slight overall thinning and some small bare spots. His plush has flattened but is clean and he could be fluffed up with a light surface wash if you wanted. I actually prefer him as he is.
The internal at the top of his front legs has broken, so that they are floppy, but he can still
support himself in a sitting position as long as he is not sitting on a slippery surface. There is also a small hole on the tip of his front right paw and back left paw and the felt on the inside of his ears has some holes. His blue ribbon is original and his amber and black glass eyes
and although he has lost his underscore FF button, he is guaranteed to be an early and original Steiff ‘Irish Terrier’ toy dog.
He is a very handsome boy, and a sought after and collectable Steiff toy and would make a wonderful addition to any collection or as a companion to your hug of bears.
