Meet ‘Franklin’ – he is a very handsome antique/vintage Merrythought jointed mohair teddy bear with a label on his foot, button on his ear and leather on the pads of his hands. He also has his original WORKING squeaker and measures approximately 13″ tall. Franklin shows signs of being well loved over the years and has had his foot pads replaced with beautiful Liberty fabric and a small patch of fabric on his nose.
I believe the combination of the button (like a Steiff button) and the design of the label on the foot suggests he is quite an early Merrythought bear – possibly 1930s. The leather pads may have been a very old addition.
Please see images for information regarding condition – note missing mohair / thread and marks on the fabric. He shows signs of age/use and is a delicate soul but it only adds to his handsome character.
