Aloystus is a large (20″ approx) pale blonde straw stuffed antique Steiff bear dating from the 1920’s, he has brown glass eyes and most importantly retains his Steiff (ff) button in his ear. It looks as though his nose and mouth stitching could have been replaced, also his 4 pads and claw stitching may have been replaced sometime in his life, if so then they have been done very professionally. He does have some faults, namely his head is wobbly now and there are several bald patches and some breaks in the mohair on his body, the main area of baldness is on his upper back, I have tried to show this on the photos. It also looks like the stitching on his front and back seams has been opened at some time in his life and there is some shifting of the woodwool filling especially under his left arm. Aloystus used to be a very pleasant bear but just recently he has become quite grumpy in his old age, I even made him a nice hat with his name on just to cheer him up but he wasn’t a bit grateful, all he did was to growl at me! ( he does like to growl now and then just when he feels like it though). All in all Aloystus displays well and considering his age of around 90+ years he’s a great bear, please take a good look at the photo’s to assess his overall condition and if you have any questions, please ask. He will come to his new owner wearing his hat and collar with bells on and will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the following day.
