Herewe have an original Wendy Boston teddy bear from the mid-sixties in very good condition with somevery interesting extras. I’ve tried to take some good photos to help with confirming the descriptions. Firstlythe bear. S/heis light brown and 12 tall standing and 8 when sitting. He has been very welllooked after so there is no real evidence of wear on the fur. There is just atiny hint of wear on one of the paws so you can tell hes been out of the box,but overall he looks very smart. He has the original pink bow around his/her neckand smells nice and clean. The label on the left foot reads Wendy Boston veryclearly. I think the label was originally a little larger and there would havebeen a second line reading Playsafe Toys but this was obviously cut away avery long time ago. Nowfor the extras. Amazinglywe still have the box that he came in which measures 12 by 8 by 4. Althougha little creased, the vinyl window of the box is all intact and so are all the main panels. There is one side underflap on the top of the box that ismissing and there has been a little bit of cellotape added at some point alongthe edges of the box at the bottom and top. However, overall it’s intact and tidy, and for a box this size to survive for thislong is I imagine a rare occurrence. Thebottom of the box says that it was toy number 204 and colour 1C. On theside of the box the address is Wendy Boston Playsafe Toys, Abergavenny whichafter a quick google I think means that the bear was made between 1960 and 1968. From recollectionwe think it may have been bought in 1965. Insidethe box is a piece of card measuring about 6 by 4 that translatesthe guarantee wording from the back of the box into six languages – French, German Spanish,Italian, Swedish and Dutch. I suppose in most cases this would have been thrownout, but it happened to remain in the box so might be an interesting extra. Andfinally theres also a page from a magazine measuring about 9 by 6 thatcontains in the top right an advert for Wendy Boston Playsafe Toys and offeringa free booklet. Unfortunately the booklet isnt around any more, but the advert must have been taken from a magazine at some point before the bear was bought. When the bear was bought the advert was kept inside the box and so makes a nice extra. So,there you have it. A vintage bear who is now fifty years old and who hopefully will be able to go to a good home and continue to be looked after well. He also comes with some extras that may beof interest to collectors.

Anyway, Ill package this bear and box very very carefullyfor transit, and it will go Recorded Delivery in the UK by Royal Mail. Giventhat this is a rare item I will also accept bids from overseas. However I wouldprefer to be able to send the bear to a UK address and then you arrange to havehim shipped to you, so if youve got friends/family in the UK who can do that then that would be best. I will ship directly overseas if needed but be aware that this will cost youquite a bit as I would want to ensure secure transit and receipt.
