A wonderful, miniature Schuco Janus bear c.1950s, famous fo having two faces. When the knob at the base of his body is turned, Janus’ good sweet face transforms into the devillish naughty one, sticking out his tongue, and vice versa from naughty to good. Janus is in lovely original condition, except for his cheeky tongue which is a red felt replacement, instead of the original metal one. Made of tinplate covered in bright old mohair, Janus measures 9 cms (3.5″) high.
Naughty Janus has metal facial features, whereas good Janus has worn, black-painted metal eyes, but his nose and mouth are hand-embroidered, though nothing much of his nose stitching remains. His limbs are jointed and his head can be rotated either by hand, or using the metal knob. He’s a quirky, funny little character and wears two handmade dicky bows on elastic to suit each face!
