Very, Very, Rare, Deans Rag Book Wooden Disney Character, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Disney in 1926-1927. He was created as Disney were starting work with a new partner and wanted to move forward with an all animated look, they decided to create a Rabbit as so many cartoons at that time were cats. Oswald was actually really popular for a few years and merchandise such as this wooden figure strung like a doll were created. Mickey Mouse was then created and overshadowed Oswald which meant that mechandise diminished meaning that they are now extremely rare and very much sought after.Deans created different variants of these strung poseable dolls including Mickey Mouse but it seems the Oswald versions are hardest to find. I have carried out research but can only find additional information relating to Oswald on Wikipedia and also a private collection by Mel Birnkrant online.I have seen two similar wooden examples of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but neither is quite the same – their legs are less complex, and they don’t have wooden ears. This one is in all original condition (though he does have some paint loss to his head which can be seen in the photographs), with: stained wood, excellent stringing; still fully poseable, original felt hands, original red felt mouth, original string tail, original wooden ears! and two yellow paper labels to his feet. – incredible for a wooden toy which is almost 100 years old. He’s obviously been treasured. He stands 7 inches tall foot to top of his head, and his ears adding an extra 2.5inches so he stands 9.5 inches tall and has a lovely smooth wooden feel to him. He would make an excellent addition for any Deans/Disney/Vintage Toy collector. All offers considered and I always combine postage costs where applicable. Any questions please message me :-)
