This adorable little antique 12″ teddy bear is probably an early Chad Valley – a design which I think is sometimes referred to as a ‘smiles’ bear.
My teddy is a bit unusual because you don’t often see these Chad bears in this small size.
Clearly, there are some imperfections and signs of age and wear, but the mohair coverage is actually good to very good, with only some small patchy places of fur loss and thinning.
The amateur and fairly untidy replacement felt pads/paws can be changed, some of the original linen is underneath.
Ted is wood-wool filled, possibly with some cork – and even with the obvious flaws, has retained most of the original character and features.
I have included the lovely little vintage dress, seen in one of the pics, because it really suits the teddy.
