Farnell Babar the Elephant c1933
This rare Farnell Alpha Toys Babar the Elephant was a character created by the French writer Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. AA Milne introduced an English language version to the UK and US in 1933 which is probably when this toy was first introduced. Babar measures 16″ and retains his original green felt jacket and trousers which apart from some fading to the front mainly and a couple of small holes are in very good condition for their age. His vest is not original. The body of Babar is just cloth as they were always meant to be dressed. His head is mohair as are the ends of his arms. His arms and legs are jointed and move freely but his head is not jointed. He has replaced glass eyes and rexine shoes and card lined feet with the Farnell’s Alpha Toys label. His grey mohair is in excellent condition with little loss and overall he is very clean. He has a red velvet mouth and felt tusks. One ear could use a couple of stitches. A superb rare Farnell toy in great condition.
Babar is a super cute character with oddles of charm
Thanks for looking.
