Sailor Sydney | 1920’s 26″ Chiltern Hugmee
Introducing Sailor Sydney! Oh he’s a poppet! He dates to the late 1920’s and is an English Chiltern Teddy Bear known as a “Hugmee”.
He is fully jointed, and stuffed with woodwool and kapok. He retains his original painted back glass eyes, original facial stitching, pads and a working squeaker.
Sydney is a big boy measuring 26 inches. I do enjoy the larger Chilterns of this age, i feel like they are a must for any collection as they sit so beautifully with the other teds, and are fabulous for other bears to sit on their lap :-)
Sydney has lost some mohair to his torso and thighs, but retains a wonderful luxurious head of hair .. and also at some point he’s been lovingly dressed in a vintage sailor shirt, complete with old ribbon and sailor button – which i love.
I imagine Sailor Sydney was pride of someones hug .. but he’s now been left behind, and needs a new bear family to join.
He’s shown here with his bear-st friend Roo (German) who’s also looking for a home and is listed separately.
