Offered in this listing is “Bruno”, a large and lovely Pedigree teddy bear from the 1950’s. Crafted from golden mohair, Bruno has a classic post-war design with a straight body, cute stubby arms and short snout. His endearingly ‘googly’ expression is the result of Pedigree’s innovative plastic safety eyes, which sit on the surface of the teddy bear’s face.
The frayed remains of Bruno’s Pedigree label can be seen at the top of his spine and his original growler still works (albeit unpredictably!). A similar example of this design is featured on page 93 of The Teddy Bear Encyclopedia by Pauline Cockrill (Bruno would originally have had a moulded plastic nose).
A beautiful, traditional bear, Bruno would make a superb nursery decoration, first child gift or bear collectors piece!

Materials: Bruno is crafted from golden mohair fur. He has velveteen paw pads and is stuffed with wood wool in his torso and kapok in the rest of his body. He has his original tilt growler, which works faintly and intermittently. Jointed with traditional cotter pins, he can move his head and limbs. His eyes are amber and black, two-part plastic safety eyes. His wool embroidered nose looks like a home-made repair; he would originally have had a moulded plastic nose (small vestiges of glue show where it was fixed). His embroidered mouth is original.

Condition: Bruno has been a well-loved bear. Although his mohair is still thick in areas it has thinned generally with age and has areas of baldness, mostly on the temples, belly and limbs; it is a good colour, with some age discolouration, mostly around the seams. His velveteen pads are worn, showing the backing fabric, although a little of the pile remains there is a small frayed hole on the tip of his left paw (approximately 3mm x 10mm) and on his left foot pad (approximately 5mm x 10mm) (please see photos). Bruno’s stuffing is firm, with the exception of his left arm where there is some settling (indicating the arm that his young owner would have carried him by).
His wool embroidered nose is a replacement of his original moulded plastic nose; his embroidered mouth is original. His eyes are original and firmly attached. His joints are intact and mobile and his seams are firm. His original growler works, though intermittently.
Bruno has had a thorough and gentle clean and brush up.
