Mr Wheels – Rare Omega Coaster Monkey 1920s Teddy Bear – Old English Antique
Mr Wheels is a very special 1920’s Monkey! He is a very rare little chap as he is what’s known as a coaster monkey because he rides his own little trolley! He was made by the British Manufacturing Company and is part of their Omega range of teddies and toys. He measures around 11.5inches long and is fully jointed, stuffed with woodwool, and attached to his trike via his bottom and hands. He is mounted in an “eccentric” way, which means that when he’s pulled along, the metal lifts him up and down, so that he looks like he’s pumping the handle bars and driving the trolley.There aren’t all that many Omega coasters still around – I imagine this is partly due to their nature of being attached to a pull-along cart – likely children broke them, or they were deliberately detached at some point… this is why Mr Wheels is such a joy.
He has had some gentle restoration to his hands due to too much coasting .. but this ties in beautifully. He is clean and furry with blonde-brown mohair, felt face, ears, hands and feet and original painted back glass eyes whilst sitting on an all original condition trike including the metal fastener for his string – he’s in wonderful condition!I’m in no doubt he would be a wonderful addition for any vintage toy collector, and Mr Wheels would be a special life long monkey friend
