Here’s Fire Chief Frankie, an endearing early American character, dressed in a wonderful fire officer’s uniform. This has been hand-sewn from an original grown-up one, and looks to have seen plenty of action! It’s trimmed with official fire service buttons, and an AFS badge. Frankie also wears a “Hail to the Chief!’ pinback.

He’s a rather quirky humpbacked bear, with quizzical close-set glass eyes, and is made of blonde mohair. In the past, his grinning mouth has been replaced with twisted purple wire, which is unusual to say the least! His felt pads are also replacements, very neatly done, and all his claws are intact.

Frankie is stuffed with woodwool and fully-jointed. He stands 36 cms (14″) tall, and has a non-working squeaker. There’s a small, almost invisible repair to his left arm, otherwise he’s a good sturdy ted. There’s some patchy baldness and thinning to his fur, proving that he’s been in a few scuffles while on active service.

Overall, Frankie is a very engaging  bear, and most likely dates to c.1920s. He travels with his vintage Dinky fire engine with bell, so he’s ready for any emergency. Thanks for looking x
