Small size Merrythought style English character bear dating to the 1930’s.
This cute little bear is just 12″ tall and dates to the 1930’s and I think he is English
and has some of the characteristics of early Merrythought bears. He is five ways jointed
and stuffed with wood wool and has bright golden mohair with amber and black glass
eyes and black cotton nose stitching with the outer stitches extending downwards in
the style of Merrythought bears. His cotton foot pads are original, although they have
been repaired in the past and his paw pads have been recovered with a similar material.
He has been loved and his mohair has overall thinning and some bare patches as you
can see from the photos, but I would estimate he has retained about 75% coverage overall.
There is also a small darned area on his chest which is not too noticeable and he has a
non working press squeaker in his tummy. He is a handsome little bear with lots of charm
and character and would make a nice addition to any hug.
