Rare but very loved 1930’s Chad Valley blue art silk Teddy bear.
This old art silkplush teddy was made by Chad Valley in the 1930’s and was originally
a powder blue colour as can still be seen in his joints but he has been very loved over
the years and his colour has faded and he has lost much of his art silk plush.
He measures approximately 14″ tall and is five ways jointed, with all his joints being
a little stiff and he is stuffed with kapok except for a little wood wool in his snout which
has broken down so his nose is quite squidgy.
His eyes are original and he has a ‘Chad Valley Hygenic Toys’ celluloid button in his
left ear and a red and white embroidered label on his left foot pad. All four of his pads
have been recovered in the distant past which also now have holes in them, although
some of the original blue felt pads are still visible underneath. His plush is very worn
and faded as you can see from the photos although he has a better coverage on his
back. Despite all of his faults, he has obviously been very loved in the past and is
still a bear of great charm and character and hopefully someone can find a space
for him in their hug, where he can continue to be loved.
