Here we have three sad old bears dating to the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Two are mohair, the largest, at 19″ tall is almost certainly by Pedigree, juging by his ears and head shape, dating to the late 1940s or early 1950s. He is missing his eyes but has a stitched nose and mouth and although his mohair is flattened he has good coverage. His paw pads are worn and his foot pads are damaged, see pics.
The middle sized bear dates to the 1930s and is probably by Chiltern. He is 14″ tall and in very poor condition, see pics, but would make a great restoration project.
The third bear is an art silk hand puppet bear with glass eyes but what makes him so interesting is that this is exactly the style of hand puppet bought by the famous entertainer Harry Corbett in Blackpool in the late 1940s, the ears of which he blacked with soot and used in his act, creating the world famous bear Sooty. It was only once Sooty made it to our TV screens that Chad Valley was given the licence to produce Sooty bears with black ears. So to all intents and purposes, this little bear puppet is a far more accurate representation of the original Sooty.
All bears are fresh and clean smelling and would make a lovely addition to any bear collection.
