Here’s a super cute, rare Austrian ‘Fogel Wien’ teddy baby c.1950s, with original features. Baby no longer retains his corded ear tag, but has lovely brown-tipped white mohair, and stands 36 cms (14″) tall. Stuffed with woodwool, his eyes are amber glass, and he has the signature metal nose, plus an open felt-lined mouth. Fully-jointed, there’s a large, non-working voice box in his torso.

Baby’s felt pads are in good condition with minimal wear, and all his claws are intact. Made in the style of a teddy baby, his paws are playfully down-turned, and he’s in wonderful condition, having kept most of his fur. This lovable little character is dressed in his vintage baby jacket and Fogel name necklace (mistakenly spelt with a V in my pics, but since altered to F!). The rattle is a prop only and not included in the listing.

Very little is known about Fogel Wien bears, but they’re thought to have been produced in post-WW2 Vienna, which was still divided into sectors, one being French. Their ID tags were attached through the right ear with a twisted cord in the Austrian Monarchy colours of black and gold, gripped together with a metal seal imprinted with FOGEL WIEN. Similar bears were also produced called RATZ ViENNE, and it’s often difficult to tell them apart. However, I’ve had a Fogel Wien bear before, with ID tag, so I know this teddy baby is definitely a Fogel. Thanks for looking!
