Monkey Weihnachten | Steiff Monkey w/ photo Provenance
Introducing Monkey Weihnachten! He’s a special Monkey dating to around the late 1920’s to 1930 and was made by the German company Steiff!
He is a very special boy because he was clearly adored, and most likely his little owners favourite toy. He has his own 5 photograph provenance, which shows him with his little owner, her Mummy & Granny on Christmas Eve in Germany 1932. These photographs are fantastic, and he is seen in every photo in various locations and poses! (take a look at the cheeky one of him holding a pretend cigarette, and one of him being read to!).
He measures around 15.5inches, is fully jointed and stuffed with woodwool with brown tipped mohair. He’s lost his button at some point along with one ear, but retains his original glass eyes. His hands and feet are interesting as he has what look like leather gloves which are starting to wear away and you can see his felt hands underneath. Maybe these were original to him due to the stitch detailing and having cuffs?! – they look more like gloves than re-covers.
He retains his original outfit of a green waistcoat, and hat with wooden bobble- as shown in the photographs.
For me, his condition shows he’s been loved, and gosh he has a tale to tell! I adore photograph provenance and this is just so special, so much to look at in these pretty photographs, they’re wonderful – and it’s clearly him!
Monkey Weihnachten has now been left behind by his old family, and needs someone new to show him some love.
