This adorable old fella is Bengo, a very early straw filled boxer or mastiff dog, dating to around 1920. He is a substantial 16″ tall, with clear glass eyes which have the remains of brown painted backs, a plastic nose (unlikely to be original) and wonderful, realistic folds around his mouth, thankfully drool and slobber free, unlike many of his breed!! One ear has a wired interior to enable it to “cock”, and there is a hole in this ear, see pics. His legs also have wire running through them so that he stands well. The wire pokes out through 3 of his four feet and his back left leg has damage as well as some lesser damage to his front left leg, again, see pics. I almozt patched them myself but then decided he wiuld be better un the hands of someone who knows what they are doing! Despite all his war wounds he lives to give the teds a ride, and makes a marvellous addition to any bear collection.
