Here we have Claude, a lovely old straw filled German jointed bear, dating to the 1920s or early 30s. He is an impressive 24″ tall with glass eyes, a stitched nose and mouth. He still has his original pads, but they are in need of repair, and his right ear needs sewing back on properly. He has considerable bald patches to his legs (see pics).
He is made from two tone tipped mohair was originally tipped a different colour at the ends, which you can see best around the base of his ears and on his legs, and his muzzle is made from a contrasting mohair plush. He also has very long arms and all of these features point to him being an early bear by reputable early German bear manufacturer Bernhard Hermann. Good examples of these bears, especially the larger ones, are getting increasingly difficult to find.
I think his mohair would benefit from a careful clean as it is rather grubby, but he smells clean and fresh.
With loving restoration he will be a smashing bear, he will look a treat once he is restored to his former glory. He would make a fine and rather rare addition to any old bear collection.
