Extremely Rare Antique Early to Mid 19th Century Wind-up or Clockwork Muzzled BEAR with Staff which is a very early rare example and the last one similar selling for around 1,400 in auction all though this example has the clockwork mechanism seezed or rusted up. Measures 11 1/4″ inches High and the bear having a hard or solid body and having Glass Eye’s. The clockwork or wind up movement at the bottom does not actually work the bear and we are not sure what its function was and has a wheel loose on the back so needs attention by a professional but a lovely rare early clockwork Bear ot antiques and earlier than any of the clockwork bears on line or more of a museum piece. Lastly we have been told that this was probably made in Germany or Austria or if not England and we have all ready been offered 100 before listing it on ebay.CONDITION is as per my pictures with natural age related wear commensurate with age and with wear to the nose which has worn away over the years and the bear having Glass Eye’s. The Key moves a little but only about 5mm so the movement has rusted up and don’t know if this can be freed up or not and the bear is exactly as we found it clearing a loft at Greenhithe in Kent/London.
