Antique Chad Valley Teddy Bear circa 1930s / early 1940sOriginal not reproduction.
* This handsome gentleman teddy bear is around 80 years old.* He has pale gold, almost curly mohair fur and bright amber stud eyes.* His nose and mouth are stitched in black thread.* He stands at approximately 34cm (13.5in) from top of his furry head to the pad of back paw.* He has tan fabric paw pads which do have signs of damage…sadly as a little girl I decided to operate on of his 2 front poor paws, which can clearly be seen and has left him with some rather unsightly war wounds ~ childrens Drs set has a lot to answer for!* He has a couple of small marks on the top of his head…almost look like rust marks but no idea what they are.* The mohair fur has also worn away from love in a few places.* His head turns, all his limbs have movable joints and he can sit unaided with ease.* Once upon a time this lovable bear was able to roar (well more of a dull squeak if Im honest) when his tummy was pressed but I do not know if he still has any voice as I have not attempted to try CPR on the old fellow.* This friendly old bear belonged to my Grandmother as a small child and she then gave it to me when I was a little girl. My Nan was born in 1932 and this dates the bear to the 1930s / early 1940s.As can be seen from the photos, he has been extremely well loved, hugged and adventured on many teddy bear picnics.Sadly he now spends his time wrapped and packed away and I feel someone (a collector perhaps) who will appreciate his worth would make a much happier home for this wonderful old bear.
* I have had the bear examined by three separate experts about 5 years ago and the valuations at that time were between 80 – 120. These values took into consideration the condition and the damage.
