A original and super cute 1950’s Chad Valley teddy bear. Straw stuffed head and kapok stuffed body, arms and legs all fully articulated. He has the typical Chad Valley coal shape bound stitched nose, amber glass eyes, golden mohair, slight upturn arms, brown velvet like paws & foot pads.
The label on the left foot pad has the Royal Warrant crest with “The Chad Valley Co Ltd. By Appointment. Toy Makers to HM Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother”. The 50’s printed chest label reads “HYGIENIC TOYS MADE IN ENGLAND THE CHAD VALLEY CO.”. This is apparently quite rare to find sewn into the front seam on the chest as most are in the seam under the arms.
Approx. 19 inches from head to toe, he is a good size. The condition is very good over all for a bear in this age. He has very little missing mohair and retains the deep golden colour , especially to the back. There is some wear to his foot pads & paws but not to bad, no splits or tears. I believe he has a “growler box” in his chest, this no longer seems to work unfortunately.
