ADORABLE LITTLE ANTIQUE 1930’S
BLACK VELVET CLOCKWORK CAT
WITH ORIGINAL RIBBON & ORIGINAL KEY
Due to errors in the postage/shipping prices in my original listing, which I was unable to alter as there were already bids placed). I thought that it was best to relist the cat with the correct shipping costs.
My sincere apologies to all the previous bidders and watchers.
This is a truly adorable little antique clockwork cat is in full working order complete with his original key.He does not appear to have any makers marks or labels, and I have not been able to identify who made him, as my knowledge of clockwork toys is limited, to say the least! I’m reasonably sure that he is of English or German origin, and I think he probably dates from the 1930’s.His key may have originally a manufacturers mark but it so faint that even with a magnifying glass it is unreadable. He measures approximately 5 inches in height from his front paws to the tip of his ears and 7 inches in length from nose to tail.He is made of black velvet except for his muzzle and inner ears which are white velvet. His velvet is very clean with hardly any age related wear, and retains excellent original colour with very little, if any age related fading. He is stuffed entirely with wood wool, which is still very firmly and evenly distributed, and he has no leaking or torn seams. His clockwork mechanism is located in his body and the key fits into his tummy to wind him up. His mechanism works perfectly with his key left in place or removed. He has original painted back green glass eyes, black stitched nose and muzzle and lots of original whiskers! He also has all his original yellow stitched claws – four claws on each of his four paws.
He is a very clean little cat with no musty or unpleasant odours. He has no serious faults or damage, and very little age related playwear, and is a charming little cat in very good condition.
I think that he must have been quite expensive to buy when new, as he is most beautifully made and very good quality. I have never seen another one like him – if anyone can identify him, I would love to hear from them!
He still retains his original red neck ribbon, which is a little worn, but complete.
His little vintage embossed bronze bell is not original to him, but is included in the sale.
When he is wound up and placed on all four paws he moves forward then stands up on back legs (in a begging position) and his tail spins round and round as he moves in large circles on his back legs, occasionally putting all four paws back on the floor, then standing up on his back leg once more. His clockwork mechanism functions perfectly and he is very well balanced, and does not topple over when moving.
HE IS VERY AMUSING TO WATCH & IS AN APPEALING LITTLE CAT WITHA GREAT DEAL OF CHARM.
HE DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY & WOULD BE A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION If you require any further photos or details please don’t hesitate to ask . . .
