This gorgeous Antique or Vintage Golden Mohair Teddy Bear may be English in origin, and possibly a Chiltern, Farnell or Chad Valley Teddy Bear.
However, I do not know for certain and I may be wrong, but those with more knowledge than myself will know at a glance.He measures approximately 26 inches from ear to foot and so is a big boy!I am unsure as to his age, but would guess at around 1930.He appears to be fully wood wool or straw filled as he makes a lovely scrunchy sound when squeezed.His eyes are glass and his nose and mouth hand stitched.He weighs approximately 1.3 kg and so is of substantial size & weight.Teddy is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear commensurate with age and use.This basically consists of generalised wear/loss to the Mohair, some fading to the Mohair and some minor grubbiness.Teddy is 5 way jointed and has 4 claws to his hands and 5 to his feet.His felt pads may be replacements but if so appear to have been professionally done.He comes with a rather lovely Antique or vintage embroidered silk jacket and a pair of vintage cotton romper pants-the jacket shows signs of wear.There is some minor looseness between Ted’s head, arms and legs, but his head still holds up well.He sits up unaided beautifully.Ted has some wear around his nose & mouth where the straw is visible but he really is a very handsome fellow.
