Wonderful antique bear who is at least ninety years old.  Height approx 22 inches.  Made by Chad Valley between 1923 and 1926.  He still retains his original metal celluloid covered button in his upper torso. It says “Chad Valley Aerolite Trade Mark”.  This is one of the very early buttons.  There is some old brown staining under the celluloid across the button although the words can still be seen (see photo).  Aerolite was their trademark for the kapok stuffing that was used.He still retains lots of his thick curly golden mohair and has a prominent shaved muzzle.  His torso still has most of his fur, as do his legs, with just a few areas near his feet balding.  His left arm has some wear to the mohair on the outer side, probably due to being picked up.  His face has mohair left but the back of his head has quite a bit of fur missing (see photo). He has a hump to his back and velveteen pads.  One paw has 3 claws with four on the other.  The feet have five stitches on one foot with one of the stitches hanging loose and needing reattaching .  The other foot has 2 claws with the remains of the third stitch visible. His nose has vertical stitching.  The final stitch around his nose is loose (see photo).  The rest of the nose stitching is firmly attached. This bear has been in my collection for quite a few years.  He was straight ‘out of the attic’ when I bought him at auction.  He was discovered in a trunk in a loft/attic along with another bear and a large Mickey Mouse toy of the same era, during a house clearance.  They originally belonged to a little boy.  Sorry I don’t know any more of the bears history.  He is a handsome fellow and I will miss him, but I must downsize my collection slightly. When I got him, the only thing I did to him was replace his glass eyes which were missing.  His new ones are on wires and not suitable for children of course.  I think that everything else about him is original.  Considering he is 90 years old I think overall he is in good condition with much of his good quality mohair remaining.  Please study the photos and ask any questions you may have.He has been gently displayed in my smoke free home.  Sorry I post within the UK only.  Thank you for looking.
