ADORABLE ANTIQUE EARLY BRITISH CHAD VALLEY TEDDY BEAR CIRCA 1915-1922
This charming little antique British teddy bear dates from sometime between 1915 – 1922, and although he no longer retains his label or button, he has the typical characteristics of an early Chad Valley bear made during their experimental period.He has the typical characteristics of an early Chad Valley bear, long curved arms, large feet, triangular vertically stitched nose with horizontal top stitches, prominent clipped smiling muzzle, large flat ears and painted back glass eyes.
He is made of dark golden, long pile mohair which retains 98% coverage. His mohair is very clean and silky soft with a lovely overall muted sheen to it, and retains very good unfaded colour.
He is a very clean little bear with no musty, dusty or unpleasant odours of any sort.
He is 5-way (disc) jointed, with all joints in very good firm condition’
He is stuffed entirely with wood wool, which is still very firm and evenly distributed, and has a very large (non-functioning) circular shaped growler located in his body.
All 4 paw pads are original and apart from very minor, light related fading (which is only visible under close scrutiny) his paw pads are in very good condition, being complete and intact with no repairs, splits or holes at all.
He retains his original black claw stitching (four claws on both upper paws, and five claws on both lower paws).
He retains his original black stitched muzzle which is vertically stitches with horizontal top stitches and his original black stitched ‘smiling’ muzzle.
His (stitched in) painted back glass eyes are also original to him.
His antique blue silk ribbon is not original to him, but suits him very well and he will be wearing it when he arrives at his new home!He is a charming example of an early English bear, and is in very good condition for his age.
He is an endearing happy-faced little bear with a great deal of gentle charm that makes him very hard to resist!
He is also quite a hard-to-find, very collectable little teddy who displays beautifully and would be a charming addition to any collection.
