Meet Douglas, a beautiful large bear who is 25″ tall and quite chubby! He was sold to me as a Schuco bear and, having done a bit of research, I’d say that’s probably accurate, although I’ve seen bears like him attributed to both Diem and Hermann as well – those really in the know will probably have a better idea. His pale gold long mohair is in a lovely condition apart from the odd area one side of his chin which appears to have been cut back (before I bought him), but it doesn’t really take anything away from his charm. When I bought him he’d come from a slightly smoky place and I’ve done my best to help him shake that off, but close-up he is still a little musty-smelling. His fur is flattened in places where he’s been sitting down for some time – just normal wear for a bear his age, but you can see all his lovely fur in the pictures. He has a shaven snout and paw pads, and a black stitched nose and mouth, with only a very small area of wear to the left side of his nose. His eyes are clear glass and appear to have painted backs, which has slightly flaked but looks mostly brown (see pictures). He is very firmly stuffed (feels like woodwool or similar as it’s sort of crunchy) and he’s disc jointed with everything moving smoothly. There’s no sign that he ever had a growler. He does have a small hump on his back, long straight, chubby arms and shorter chubby legs with very defined feet. Douglas is a very lovely bear who is looking for a new home – I’m sorry to see him go, but I really need the room. He is a large and heavy bear and this is reflected in the price of postage.
